A heart rate
monitor will help you exercise smart
A common misconception about
exercise is that you have to run as hard as you possibly can and
for as far as you possibly can in order to get in shape. This
isn’t true, in fact, often less exertion is far more effective,
especially when it comes to losing weight. A simple heart rate
monitor can help you to determine if you’re exercising hard
enough. Instead of exercising as hard as you can, you should
instead try to stay near your target heart rate for the duration
of your exercise routine. While you can take your pulse the usual
way to make sure that you’re near your target heart rate, a heart
rate monitor is much more convenient method for keep your heart
rate at the right speed.
Of course, you might ask, how do
you determine your target heart rate? For most people, the target
heart rate is determined by subtracting their age from 220, and
then figuring out what 75-85% of that number is. You can even get
a heart rate monitor that will tell you what percentage of your
maximum heart rate you’re working at. That way, you will always
know exactly how close you are to your target heart rate without
doing any additional math.
You don’t have to get a big and
bulky heart rate monitor, either. Most of the models that are sold
now by brand names such as Reebok or CardioSport just look like
sports watches. As a result, you can exercise well and keep track
of your heart rate in style.
