Interpreting
treadmill comparisons
Almost every treadmill manufacturer will tell you that their
product is the best in the category, it is only natural. And
while they may even believe that this is the case, the only way
to be sure is to perform a series of treadmill comparisons, to
contrast the features that they offer, and also to uncover areas
in which the competition might be better. In fact, they often
carry out treadmill comparisons themselves, in an effort to
convince the consumer, but how do you know whether they have
neglected a specific area because it has a weakness?
Depending on how much money you have available to invest, you
will be looking at a certain category of machine – in the low,
medium or high quality brackets. It is important that any
treadmill comparisons that you do take into account this
important factor. On the other hand, while you cannot generally
compare a high end machine with a low end one, sometimes an
increase of just 10% in the price will bring additional features
which will be of use in your home gym.
The three major points which should figure, and carry a lot of
weight in any home treadmill comparisons are the motor, workout
features, and space. Other aspects such as cushioning and
smoothness of the ride, are important, but you can always do
things to improve these, even in a budget machine, such as
buying better running shoes.
The motor is important, and a figure of about 2 horse power is a
good continuous duty rating, and it should come with at least a
1 year warranty. The next item on your treadmill comparisons
list is the number of workout features – such as variable speed
and incline, both adjustable from the central console. Finally,
if space is an issue than you need to look for a folding
treadmill, but be sure that the running board is still long
enough for your stride.
