Fed up with
sit-ups? Get an incline bench
In every workout regime which is aimed at either getting you
into shape, or keeping you there, whether it is just so you can
boast a flatter stomach, or a rippling six pack, the exercises
will include stomach crunches or sit ups. At a certain point,
you will feel that you are just not getting the most from these
variations on a theme, and an incline bench can help you to
increase the potential of these basic exercises. The basic
premise of an incline bench is that it provides a platform which
can be raised or lowered at one end, thus forcing you to perform
your sit ups on a hill.
What this means is that, rather than just lifting your shoulders
and torso against gravity, as you would be doing without an
incline, you have to work against the slope, meaning that you
need to lift yourself higher. The incline bench enables you to
anchor yourself at one end, and then, hanging from your feet,
crunch or perform sit ups until you really feel the effect.
You will be able to have a shorter work out session for the same
effect, since each repetition is harder than without the bench,
thus you will be able to build on your progress, without feeling
that the sessions are getting longer and longer each time. The
incline bench lets you do this in a controlled, comfortable
manner.
The two key features to look for in an incline bench are the
comfort of the padding – it should be tough and thick – and the
number of positions that you can put the bench into. The more
positions, the more workout possibilities, not just crunches and
sit ups but other exercises too.
