Total body
workout with a Pilates machine
While you might be familiar with the Pilate workout series of
equipment, which features balls, mats, jump ropes and precise
instructions for exercising in the correct manner, the idea of a
Pilates machine might seem alien to you. It makes sense,
however, that a technique that is this beneficial to the human
body should have some kind of higher intensity version. The
Pilates machine range takes the system to the next level, giving
a more intensive workout, but using the same guiding principles
as all other Pilates equipment.
Your first introduction to the Pilates exercise system may well
have been through floor exercise on a Pilates mat or other
general purpose yoga mat. The Pilates machine uses these forms
as a starting point, but then throws in all the advantages that
we associate with working out using an artificial device.
Part of this is providing varying levels of resistance, as it
is, the traditional system only allows you to work against your
own body. This is fine for trimming, but the only way to get
more out of your workout is to continue it for longer. The
Pilates machine changes this, by providing up to four levels of
resistance – where you were previously pushing against air, you
are now pushing against a set of heavy duty elastic cords.
If climbing up and down from your Pilates machine doesn’t appeal
to you, there is now a sturdy stand which serves two purposes.
One, it allows you to mount and dismount with ease, and two, you
can perform even more exercises because you have ground
clearance, required for some of the more advanced workouts.
